“On the last day of the year 2022, the departure of the former pope titled Benedict XIV saddened me.” said the dean of University of Religions and Denominations` message

The exact message of Hojat-o-Islam Walm-o-slemin Seyyed Abul Hassan Nawab is as below:

In the name of God

On the last day of the past year 2022, the departure of the former pope, Joseph Ratzinge, Benedict XIV, saddened us. Benedict as a German notable cardinal who had supervised publication of the book “catechism, the principles of Christian religion” resigned after feeling incapable of doing papacy responsibilities. His voluntarily resignation was rare in recent centuries.

Some of his stances toward Islam were criticized but he reformed them when faced the realities about Islam.

The attention he paid on inter-faith dialogues was praised. Benedict XIV welcomed the Persian translation of “Catechism” done by the scientific board of University of Religions and Denominations and approved by Vatican embassy in Tehran.

On a formal ceremony held in Gregory University attended by Cardinal Turan, the late head of the Pontifical Council for Interfaith Dialogue, the translation of Catechism was unveiled. In a face to face meeting I had with Benedict XIV, he appreciated the translation.

Offering my condolence on Benedict XIV departure, as a big loss, to the world Christians particularly the Catholic church in the world and Iran, I hope the Catholic Christians under the religiously leadership of Pope Francis make their best efforts to improve religions` harmony and interaction as well as expansion of peace and justice in the world.
