Department of Women Studies

Currently, the only department in the Faculty of Woman and Family is the Department of Women Studies. The department seeks to develop woman and family research by creating a link between this area and in-depth Islamic studies. Also, the department aims to explain various dimensions of women’s rights based on the principles of Islamic law. This department offers two MA programs and one PhD program. Successful applicants can enroll in “Women Studies, Specialization in Woman and Family” and “Women Studies, Specialization in Women’s Rights in Islam” at the master’s level. The doctorate on “Women Studies, Specialization in Women’s Rights in Islam” is also offered. The Department of Women’s Studies is managed by Dr. Masoumeh Zarei.

The content and the courses presented in different programs of the department tend toward women and family studies from sociological and religious perspectives. Some of the topics taught in this department are psychology of women, philosophy of women’s rights in Islam, social-political rights and responsibilities of women, principles of family law in Islam, pathology of women’s and family’s issues, family in Islam, and sociology of gender.
