The “Philosophy of Religion” field at the master’s level is a complete educational course, in accordance with the regulations and approvals of the Supreme Planning Council of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran, which deals with the rational analysis of religion and its fundamental teachings. In other words, the philosophy of religion is a science that studies its main teachings with a philosophical approach. The underlying topics of religion are one of the most active and lively intellectual fields and research topics of our daily life. Therefore, the need to present the philosophy of Islamic religion and confront anti-religious currents and respond to the intellectual problems of the society in the field of religious philosophy are among the necessities. Discussions and issues raised in the field of western religious philosophy should be carefully analyzed and examined at the level of society. It is also necessary to produce the philosophy of Islamic religion and promote and deepen religious issues by benefiting from the foundations of Islamic wisdom and thinking and focusing on the four criteria of Islamization, localization, modernity and efficiency.

One of the most important goals of this field at this stage is Islamization, localization, modernity and efficiency of the topics of the philosophy of religion and familiarization with opposing schools and opinions in the realm of the philosophy of religion and their criticism. Graduates of this field can answer ambiguities and questions raised in the field of the foundations and issues of the philosophy of religion and play a role in establishing and developing the philosophy of Islamic religion. Also, they can be recruited as scientific staff of universities and research institutes in the field of philosophy of religion.

Having a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is enough to study in this field. This document must be approved by the Iranian consulate in the country that issued it. Foreign students applying to study in this field can study in this field regardless of their bachelor’s degree. Based on this, any person who has studied outside of Iran with any field of study at the bachelor’s level can study in this course if they have the academic qualification and the agreement of the faculty members of the scientific department. Of course, having books, scientific and journalistic articles and being interested in participating in these fields can have an impact on the approval of the faculty of the group.

The length of the Master’s course in “Philosophy of Religion” is 2 years and equal to 4 semesters. The length of each semester is equal to 16 weeks and the hours of lessons based on each unit are one hour per week. If, according to the educational group, the 2-year period is not enough to pass compensatory courses or finish the thesis, a maximum of two and a half years will be added to the two-year educational period. The master’s program “Philosophy of Religion” consists of 44 units, which are 28 units of main courses, 12 units of compensatory courses and 4 units of thesis. The student is required to complete all the main units and the thesis, as well as according to the bachelor’s field in which he will graduate, the number of compensatory courses at the discretion of the educational department.

Lessons such as “What and the origin of religion”, “Evidences to prove the existence of God and his attributes”, “Theology and the matter of evil”, “Prophecy, revelation and religious experience”, “The truth of religion and human salvation”, “Science and religion”, ” “Anthropology” and “miracle” are among the specialized courses that are taught in the field of Islamic philosophy and theology. Also, courses such as “specialized language” and “Islamic philosophy” are also included among the compensatory courses of this field.

The applicants must submit the following items to apply to the on-campus master’s programs of the University of Religions and Denominations:

  • A completed application form.
  • An electronic copy of the passport or a valid residence permit.
  • An electronic copy of the high school diploma and bachelor’s degree or their equivalent and a certified Persian, English, or Arabic translation of the transcripts.
  • The original high school diploma and bachelor’s degree or their equivalent and a certified Persian, English, or Arabic translation of the transcripts.
  • One recently taken photo of the applicant, size 30x40mm.
  • Applicant’s CV indicating education and work experience (optional).
