The Greek Ambassador to Iran, Dimitri Alexandrakis, met and spoke with Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Abolhasan Navvab at the University of Religions and Denominations (URD) on Sunday, November 3, 2019.

In this meeting, the president of the URD mentioned the long-standing relations between Iran and Greece during the Achaemenid era, Iran-Greece wars and Alexander’s invasion to Iran, and continued referring to the background of philosophy in Greece and said: “like Iran, Greece is one of the centers of human civilization.

We never forget that most of philosophers in human history such as Socrates, Plato, Hippocrates, and many great thinkers of human thought have been from Greece, and in some of our books also the Greek philosophers have even been regarded as prophets. We regard you as an Eastern civilization and our neighbor. We consider Alexandria of Egypt a place where the East and the West civilizations meet, and Greek civilization a gift from God to humanity.”

In the end, Navvab said: “We are ready to cooperate with you and welcome signing agreements with Greek universities and exchanging faculty members. We have two types of invitations for you: religious invitations and scientific invitations. So we invite your religious leaders to a dialogue between Islam and Orthodox Christianity.

The Greek ambassador in this meeting also described Iran-Greece relationship as good and said: “The US hostility prevents deepening of friendship between Iran and Greece. He also in response to Navvab’s question about studies on the views of Plato and the Greek philosophers, said: “Many researches have been done by foreigners, however we have sought to do more scientific researches”.
