This thesis is translation and analysis of the first part of Max Weber’s “The Religion of China”; a sociological study on religion in China. Being one of the trilogy of “Study of Religion” with the other two “The Religion of India” and “Ancient Judaism”, it examines “Sociological Foundations” of religion in China, on the one hand, and “Orthodoxy” and “Taoism”, on the other. The theis comprises of an analytical introduction, reviewing Weber’s works and approaches regarding study of religion and the translation of the first part of the book. Here a sociological model is presented to illustrate Weber’s idea and method of confronting study of religion. The second part includes four chapters. First, “City, Prince, God” discovers the relation between these concepts. Next, the concept of “Feudal and Prebendal State” is studied and the third chapter discusses “Administration and Rural Structure”. The last chapter introduces the “Self Government, Law and Capitalism”.
