The institute for Ethics and Spirituality held a scientific meeting about Spirituality in Christianity on May 21, 2021, in which Hujjat al-Islam Dr. Bagher Talebi Darabi delivered a lecture.

According to the public relations office of the university, a scientific meeting was held by the department of Islam and Spiritual Studies of the Institute for Ethics and Spirituality. In this meeting, Dr. Talebi Darabi, a faculty member of URD, presented his lecture on the current of Critics of the “New Age” Spirituality in Christianity. The lecture covered the following four areas:

• Typology of the currents of Critics of the “New Age” Spirituality in Christianity;
• Reactions of Catholic Church and the difficulties of the confrontation;
• Reactions of the Orthodox Church of Russia;
• Analysis of the reactions.

In this online meeting, 20 faculty members, professors and, students participated. Dr. Ahmad Shakernejad was the scientific secretary of the meeting.

The “New Age” is a particular current and school in spirituality. The phenomenon of “New Age”, as a special spiritual current, is rooted distantly in the Western esotericism and nearly in the Human potential current. This current is part of what is called a cult or deviant religious groups. The school of Osho is not an example of this current; but two examples are Alice Bailey and Theosophy.

The main implications of the “New Age current” include pantheism, panentheism, monism, animism, believing in reincarnation, karma, esoteric spiritual knowledge, and criticism of the conventional religiosity, and believing in the new spiritual knowledge in a world based on the inner divinity, rather than worshipping.
