The role of social media in social solidarity during the Corona pandemic A survey study on the public of Dhi Qar Governorate

The research problem was summarized in determining the role of social networking sites in the spread of social solidarity in society, and its impact on the behavior of the public of Dhi Qar Governorate, and monitoring the cooperation that took place between them during the emerging crisis of Corona Covid 19.

     The researcher started by asking: (What is the role of social networking sites in society during the spread of Corona disease in urging the audience of Dhi Qar Governorate to social solidarity?) by conducting a survey study in Dhi Qar Governorate because its society has a historical depth that has customs, traditions and heritage, and to determine the extent of their interaction with these Sites and their role in activating social solidarity and helping the needy and those affected by the Corona pandemic.

     The research aimed at the extent of the governorate’s audience’s use of social networking sites, diagnosing the patterns of that use, as well as determining the extent of the impact of the sites in urging the research sample for social solidarity and its spread among them, knowing the role of governmental and non-governmental institutions during the pandemic crisis, and identifying the extent to which the research sample adheres to preventive measures from Corona disease, and the researcher used the questionnaire tool as it was distributed to the research sample, which consisted of (200) individuals from the public of the governorate and contained a question specific to the location of the residence (city and village) and they are the research community.

     It is considered a descriptive survey research, as it describes the phenomenon, tabulates it and classifies it, and then interprets the data and draws conclusions. The research reached several results:

It was found through the results of the analysis that social networking sites effectively contribute to the social solidarity program during the Corona pandemic, as many humanitarian campaigns and food aid were launched through social networking sites, and from here the importance of these sites emerges. There are also many reasons that push the users of Dhi Qar Governorate to use the sites, including humanitarian reasons, including sports, political and social reasons. Traditional media and adherence to new electronic services and affect the behavior of users through the saturation of media materials on social networking sites.
