The opposition، formally known as the formal opposition، refers to the largest political party in the House of Commons not in government. The leader of this party takes the title of Leader of the Opposition. The role of the official opposition is to question and scrutinize the government’s work. In general، any party that is not part of the government is described as an opposition party. The role of the parliamentary opposition in ancient democratic systems is effective and important in order to correct the work of the ruling parties. Indeed، it is necessary for the presence of ruling and opposition parties in parliamentary and even presidential democratic systems، and this is what It is familiar with most democratic systems such as the United States of America and the European Union countries and others in the rest of the world، so that you hardly find a real democratic system without it، but in democratic Iraq – as they call it – after the occupation، there is no concept of parliamentary opposition، and the concept of opposition continues to go away. To its meaning before the fall of the regime، and the Iraqi parliament did not witness in its three sessions the existence of a real parliamentary opposition، and it became a custom in Iraq after the occupation that all the winning parties and entities share the government، no matter how small or large its share، and this is what they call consensual democracy according to the electoral merit.
