This thesis is a translation of the first part of Max Weber’s ‘The Religion of India’. This book, after ‘The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism’ and ‘The Religion of China’, is Weber’s third research in the field of Study of Religion. In this book, the author seeks to explain the lack of Western capitalism in Indian religions. The first part of the thesis contains an introduction which the translator added to give a better understanding of Weber’s work and his analytical approach to Sociology of Religion, especially in ‘The Religion of India’. The Second part of the thesis also contains the translation of the first part of the book.
