After the age of inlightment in the 17th century , many Christian teachings , including Jesus Christ teachings , were introduced . In the 18th century and especially the nineteenth century , which began criticism of scripture , there was a form of change in theology . One of the issues challenged was Jesus Christ . Criticism of scripture can not be evaluated as a historical report of Jesus ‘ life . So the word incarnated and the divinity of Jesus were not acceptable . This was where Protestant theologians struggled to defend Christian faith and adapt to the new situation. He was here to answer the difficulties of the modern era of Jesus . Reimaruss , the founder of the historical Jesus , believed that the historical Jesus who introduces the Gospels has a myth aspect . Strauss concluded that the historical Jesus was hidden in the dogma of early Christians . In fact , those who sought the date of the historical Jesus wanted to find a response to the cause of Jesus Christ , but the fact was that by studying the history of Jesus Christ , Jesus faith was not accepted by Christians.
