Press coverage of the Iraqi issue in the Spanish press Analytical study in El Pais newspaper for the period (2018-2020)

The aim of this study is to know the press coverage of the Iraqi issue in the Spanish press – an analytical study in El Pais newspaper for the period (2018-2020). This study relied on the content analysis method in studying the phenomena related to the research problem, its roots and development to discover the objective conditions that crystallized the reality that the research is trying to diagnose and evaluate. Twelve articles were selected in El Pais newspaper, distributed equally: 8 articles in 2018, 8 articles in 2019, 8 articles in the year 2020. Each deals with a prominent event in Iraq, as the student translated and categorized them according to eight files: the internal Iraqi political affairs, ‏Iraqi internal political affairs, the war on terrorism, the international coalition, Iraqi-Iranian relations, the Iraqi health file, the tourism file, the Iraqi social file.This study reached results, the most prominent of which is that the Spanish newspapers, and in particular El Pais newspaper, are concerned with the Iraqi issue by covering its political, economic and security news. Although Iraq and Spain are not neighboring countries, they have established positive and growing relations aimed at strengthening the relations of the two countries in the economic and political fields and in the fight against terrorism. The Spanish newspapers also focus on the traditional arts of editing, rely on international news agencies and some local sources, and adopt the institutional model as a news model, and the inverted pyramid template for presenting Iraq news.

Accordingly, the thesis recommends acquiring foreign languages and being open to diverse peoples, countries, and cultures. It is also necessary to read news and articles in a critical manner, valuing the positives, warning against the negatives, and focusing on reading foreign newspapers and the topics they publish of interest to us so that we can foresee the methodology of thinking and the way of working and formulating Relationships, as well as electronic interaction with foreign media, especially foreign newspapers, play a role in clarifying some suspicions of the foreign reader, and contribute to the convergence of views.
