Symbolism in modern Iraqi poetry (Diwan “La Sheya Ghayrok” by the poet Abdul Moneim Al-Amir as a sample)

The researcher, from his study entitled “Symbolism in New Iraqi Poetry (Diwan “La Sheya Ghayrok” by the poet Abdul Moneim Al-Amir as a sample), intends to identify the symbols used in the poetry of Abdul Moneim Al-Amir, one of the pioneers of contemporary Iraqi poetry. His poetic experience in the conscious and purposeful use of poetic symbols has been of great importance because the symbol for him is a set of stations and distances full of manifestations and reflections that he wanted to use to express what he has of the images and meanings present in his psychological essence.

The most important symbols that the poet has used are the symbols related to nature, religion, history, Quranic stories, and creatures that derive their life and value from the relationship and interaction of the person with them and the poet has inspired them from human reality and its signs can be seen in the continuation of the life of the Iraqi people, despite the problems facing their country. He has used symbols and words in their inspirational dimensions, in line with a great national ideal and beyond poetic art, and in search of human existence in his native land, Iraq.

The researcher took a descriptive-analytical approach to show the natural, national and religious symbols that the poet has used to express his views on the conditions and how to present his ideas. The purpose of this study is to reveal the meanings and hints of the symbols mentioned in the diwan of “La Sheya Ghayrok ” in order to gain the invisible unconscious knowledge of its words because the format of the research depends on rhetorical and linguistic dimensions, but the symbolism in his poetry requires the search for images that enter the realm of symbolism as an alternative to the traditional method of expression and is a way of circumventing situations that do not allow for direct expression of freedom.

The scholar concluded that the poet used various symbols in his diwan, especially those related to women, nature, and the conditions full of ups and downs, along with the death, destruction, and corruption of Iraq. In this regard, he used coded rhetorical formulas with religious themes. In his poems, he has used religious symbols such as prophets, Imam Hussein (AS), and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as testimony based on his firm faith.

 The results of the research show that the poet’s experience has added a certain radiance to his symbols, such as radiance full of feelings, emotions, and love for life, homeland, and relationship with God.
