The problem of this study was fundamentally focused on identifying the economic and social repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic in Iraq. The emerging of the Coronavirus crisis revealed a clear defect in the structuring of the national economy that was based on petroleum incomes and the parallel economy removed the cover and focused the light on large groups of society that do not benefit from social insurance which provides insurance in the event of unemployment. In addition, the virus revealed the fragility of a hidden sector in society that constitutes the daily work as a source of livelihood for millions. Also, this study concentrated on assessing the economic and social effects of the Coronavirus, in addition to comprehending the most important standards to be followed to diminish the economic and social effects of the epidemic on society. One of the most important standards that should be followed to overcome the above-mentioned crises is to direct the government spending to support all the necessary expenditures on virus prevention, containment, and mitigation. These standards also include overtime wages and better working environment conditions, as well as scientific research. In addition, there is a need to go for a comprehensive economic approach that terminates the option of oil incomes. Comprehensive political reforms are required before applying the above-mentioned approach.
