Attitudes of the Iraqi child towards satellite channels for children-children of Dhi Qar Governorate as a model

This study aimed to know the attitudes of the Iraqi child towards satellite channels for children and the habits or attitudes and patterns of watching children’s favorite programs towards these channels in Dhi Qar Governorate.This study relied on the descriptive approach، where a questionnaire was designed and distributed to a random sample of children in the schools of Dhi Qar Governorate.The importance of this study lies in the fact that the topic is one of the new topics in the media arena and has not been consumed much in the field of research and study due to the recent emergence and spread of satellite channels specialized in the child and given the growing interest in childhood and the rates of children watching different satellite channels، and a few studies that dealt with specialized children’s channels، where studies focused The previous relationship with the child and television or the child and Arab and foreign channels or children and children’s programs، in addition to the importance of the age stage that the study addresses، which is the late childhood stage، specifying the age of (12) years، which is witnessing a development in the child’s personality، in addition to the noticeable increase in the number of specialized satellite channels. In the child، and to find out the most preferred of these channels among children، the researcher in this study took a survey sample and selected (300) individuals from the respondents who followed the children’s channels to find out the highest percentage of children’s viewing of these channels and the most frequent ones. The study population consisted of all children in the sixth grade from the age of 12 years and their number is (31،144) children in the schools affiliated to the Directorate of Education of Dhi Qar distributed over the centers of the education departments in the governorate، which are the education department: Nasiriyah، Shatrah Al-Rifai، Suq Al-Shuyoukh، Al-Jbayish، and registered private education schools. In the Directorate of Education، Dhi Qar. The study was applied in the second semester of the academic year (2021/2022)، and the study sample consisted of (414) male and female students. Among the most important results of this study are: The attitudes of the Iraqi child towards satellite channels for children were positive. The most preferred satellite channel for children when watching in the study sample was (Mbc3)، followed by (Space Tun Arabia. While it appeared that the least preferred satellite channel for children when watching among children in the study sample was the “Sana” satellite channel.The largest percentage of viewers on satellite channels for children was during the holidays، specifically for Thursday from three o’clock until five in the evening.The majority of the children in the study sample watched TV daily for an average of three hours or more.The most preferred viewing period for the study sample was the period:.Children’s satellite channels must choose programmatic content that matches the nature of the audience and respects their cultures، customs and traditions، and promotes good morals and positivity.Encouraging Iraqi investors and capital owners to invest in this aspect to establish local children’s channels or sponsor programs dedicated to children on local and national channels that suit the nature and culture of our children.
