“A Comparative Approach to Tradition and Heresy in Imamiyya and Salafiyya (Wahhanism)”

Tradition and Heresy have long been a challenge among all Islamic sects, especially among Imamiyya and Salafiyya scholars and Islamic scholars’ views in explaining them have caused some controversy and conflicts. From the perspective of Imamiyya, tradition includes sayings, actions and writings of the infallible (PBUT) and is sayings, actions and writings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUT) and his companions from Salafiyya’s point of view. The issue of tradition and heresy is one of the basic problems in the world of Islam that one-sided and inaccurate perceptions of it cause a large deviation between the Islamic communities so that could be the foundation for many other subjects. So explaining properly the subject of heresy and tradition can be of a great help to the non-diversion or prevent the extremes and thus lead to happiness and pride of Muslim community and have concrete impact against dangerous phenomenon of excommunication, murder and violence in Islamic societies. This thesis named “Comparative study of tradition and heresy in Imamiyya and Salafiyya (Wahhanism)” consists of three chapters: first chapter addressed generalities of discussion.  In second chapter the concept of tradition from Imamiyya and Salafiyya’s views are studied and their instances are expresses. In the third chapter, the relation between heresy and innovation and known heresy in the early period of Islam and emerging issues and relation between heresy and excommunication and radical currents have been reviewed.
