The purpose of this study، entitled “Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) is a symbol of contemporary Iraqi poetry (study of Ahmad al-Khayal’s poetry as an example)”، is to show the importance of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) ideals and their impact on the thought of Islamic intellectuals، especially Islamic poets. Therefore، this study، by studying the works of a
contemporary Iraqi poet، seeks to explain the tremendous impact of the Ahl al-Bayt (as) in this regard. Poets in different eras tried to make the best use of this clear and pure source of humanity، and this issue is quite clear in their poetry when they portrayed the pure
characteristics of the Ahl al-Bayt.

Simultaneously with the development of poetry and the development of its structural and thematic methods in the new era، the poetry of praise and mourning of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) also developed، and poets introduced the high position of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH). These poets turned the various features of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) into
unattainable symbols، symbols that are sometimes material and sometimes spiritual. This study seeks to prove this by studying the poems of Ahmad al-Khayal، a contemporary Iraqi poet. In this regard،  the researcher has significantly noticed the prominent and obvious
influence of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) in the poetry of Al-Khayal، so that this issue has become one of the important features of contemporary Iraqi poetry.

On the other hand، cultural monitoring and observation of this issue are very important. Because it shows the degree of adherence of the followers and citizens of the school of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) to the thinking and character of these great men and their stability in this
direction and continuity in defending it، in all fields، including cultural areas such as poetry، etc.

Therefore، the main question that was raised in this research was:  what is the symbolic tool that the poet has used in describing the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH)?

To achieve the goal، a descriptive-analytical method was used in the analysis and description of imaginary poetry.

One of the findings of this research is that this poet، in describing the characteristics of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH)، has developed and expanded significantly، and has addressed Ahl al-Bayt in a new poetic way، in order to have a greater impact on his audience.
The symbols that the poet has dealt with have been different and numerous. Some of them، like the symbols of war and nature، are material symbols، and some of them، such as piety، courage، honesty،  loyalty، etc.، are spiritual symbols. In addition، some of the symbols
are Qur’anic symbols used by the poet.
