This study aimed to identify the role played by social media in promoting the political participation of the Iraqi public, as an activity practiced by the public to make its electoral decision and exercise its political rights based on the knowledge gained from exposure to it.

The study came in five chapters, the first was devoted to the methodological framework of the study, while the second chapter was concerned with scientific theories, social media and political participation. The results of the field study and the appropriate proposals.

In its theoretical framework, the study relied on scientific theories, reviewing previous studies and reviewing the scientific heritage related to the subject of the study.

The researcher formulated a number of objectives that the current study sought to achieve, and the researcher formulated and tested a number of hypotheses to achieve the objectives of the study.

Knowing the level of the effective role of social media in disseminating political news in Iraq, which enhances the percentage of political participation among the Iraqi public, Monitoring the forms of political participation of the public through social media, and determining the type of social media that is the most common among Iraqi society and the one that stimulates political participation, And to reveal the motives of the Iraqi public’s use of social media, and to determine the nature of the interactive political activities of the Iraqi individual through the users of social media in Iraq.

The analytical study adopted the survey method to identify the nature of the role played by social media in promoting political participation.

The population of the current study was identified in the public of the city of Baghdad, who are entitled to political participation (from the age of 18 years and above).
