The role of social media in increasing the percentage of viewers of political programs (A survey of the population of the city of Nasiriyah)

This study, titled “The Role of Social Media Sites in Increasing the Ratio of Viewers of Political Programs (a Survey Study of Dhi Qar University Students)”, attempted to explore the impact and role of social media on the citizens of Dhi Qar Governorate in the Iraqi Dhi Qar Governorate, as it is historically the most vulnerable to political excitement To this day.

The researcher relied on the descriptive, analytical, theoretical and historical approach adopted in most studies and research, and the survey method for the applied part of the study, in order to reach credible results for the political reality in Dhi Qar Governorate.

The researcher organized an opinion questionnaire form, to identify the role of social networking sites in pushing the people of the city to watch political programs and follow up on developments taking place on the Iraqi scene in general and in Dhi Qar province in particular, and in developing political awareness.

The nature of the study required access to previous studies in the interpretation of this hypothesis, and it was found that different opinions exist from the researchers ’point of view according to culture, knowledge and thinking style in dealing with political matters.

The researcher’s findings indicate that the citizens of Dhi Qar Governorate – specifically the university student sample – have been affected by social media sites and with increasing rates of interest in watching the various political programs and activities that receive these sites, and it was found that these sites have a great impact in directing the behavior and thinking of citizens. Iraqis in Dhi Qar Governorate, especially the youth group of university students, especially in terms of publishing specific directives that push to preserve the national identity of Dhi Qar Governorate and support national unity.

And based on the results of the survey conducted by the researcher and based on previous Arab and foreign studies that dealt with the role of social media in increasing the percentage of viewers of political programs, the values ​​of political and societal participation among the individuals of Dhi Qar Governorate, and what these studies focused on in knowing the benefits resulting from the use of social media sites The websites of Internet activists and the modern media during the public calls for reform and change and the fight against the frighteningly rampant administrative and financial corruption, and it has been shown that the political outlook develops through local news provided by social networking sites and leads to the realization of the importance of political awareness in determining the fate of any society.
