The Role of News Channels on Social Media in Political Awareness of the Public of Dhi Qar Province (A Comparative Study Survey)

The study aimed to identify the news channels on social networking sites and the responsibility they carry out, and to know the extent to which the public depends on them, as well as monitoring the dependence of individuals on them in obtaining political information that enhances their political awareness. And that the study used the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data from the study community represented by the public of Dhi Qar Governorate and with a study sample of (384) individuals. The study assumed that there is a statistically significant relationship between the use of news channels in social networking sites and political awareness in Dhi Qar Governorate, as well as contributing to the formation of political awareness among the public of Dhi Qar Governorate. Social communication in shaping political awareness among the audience of Dhi Qar Governorate, according to the variables of gender, age group and academic achievement. The study concluded: that most of the respondents are of the gender (males), and most of the age groups participating in the study sample are the age group (18-30 years), and that most of the respondents are holders of a (bachelor’s degree) and city dwellers and they are (employees) and use social networking sites A very large percentage because the communication sites express their opinions and there are multiple media materials and multiple channels that benefit the follower and at all levels, whether political or other. Therefore, most of the study sample follow it for a long time, and that the most site where they watch news channels is (the Facebook site), which contains the most number One of the news channels that work on developing political awareness, and therefore contributed to changing the political direction of the study sample, and that these channels have the audacity to present them in the media through which political awareness can be instilled in the public. News channels on social networking sites contributed to the dissemination of political culture that promotes and develops political awareness. The study recommended that these programs have the audacity to present the media, and that this audacity should be based on honest political information from reliable sources. The people who manage the news channels on social networking sites should be more experienced in the media field, especially in the political media because these political channels are more followed by people.
