The Role of Context in Interpreting the Holy Quran from the Point of View of Allamah Tabataba’I and Fakhr Razi (The Surahs of Symbols as an Exam)

In this study the researcher dealt with one of the most important parts of Interpretation, i.e. the Context, through analytic studying the.The researcher explains the meaning of (context) linguistically and in the science of interpreters and Usool, and shows the importance of context to the interpreters, and describes the types of context as a foreword to study the interpretation of Allamah and Razi, but he almost focused on syntax and inductive context, and the reasons of descending. The researcher reaches some results such as: the resemblance between the two interpretations in utilizing different contexts. But regarding the reasons of descending Allamah Tabataba’i could fairly explain the main purpose of the surahs, especially the surah of Shu`arah and surah of Naml (which contains good news and warning) and surah of Qasas (with its happy promise to the believer), while Razi dealt with the reasons of descending and the purposes (from his point of view) like depending on Allah, hope and avoiding fancy and whim.
