An Analytical Study of the Political and Social Position of Women in Iraq in the Light of the Iraqi newspaper Al-Sabah (from January 1 to the end of March 2022

In this research based on thematic analysis, policy change and the dynamics of politics before women in Iraq have been researched from the perspective of one of the examples of media, i.e. Al-Sabah newspaper. The theory used in this research is the Agenda Setting theory, one of the most important topics of which is the study of public policies and the process of policies and policies. The salience approach or theory is an analytical approach to pre-decision-making processes to understand broader developments in public policy. To achieve this goal, this theory places attention at the center of political and social action and relies on the fact that it is a change in attention and salience that results in a change in public policy. One of the most important aspects of the studies of policy programs and policy changes about women is the highlighting of the possibility of women attaining political and social positions, which is done in media such as Al-Sabah newspaper. The review of the published issues of this newspaper in the three months from January 1 to the end of March 2022 using theoretical and methodological approaches based on the theory of highlighting and thematic content analysis has shown that the Iraqi society and the political and media system such as the newspaper In the form of what topics was able to highlight the issue of women during the said three months or prevent it from being highlighted. As a result, one of the important achievements of this research, which has been obtained in studies based on the theory of highlighting or Agenda setting, is the analysis of the change of Iraqi politics in the field of women. Public policies reflected in Al-Sabah newspaper are proof of this change and how it is. Considering that studies based on Agenda setting theory have grown significantly in the international academic community, this thesis has been able to benefit from the existing literature in this field and make the results reliable and valid. And through the objective content analysis method, which is one of the qualitative methods, the numbers of the newspaper were studied for three months and classified into two groups: social and political affairs and analysis. The theme of coding the results based on the thematic analysis to analyze the categories mentioned in the sub-questions to find answers to the main question. The theme of expressing the results in the theoretical, descriptive and experimental analytical sections. The theme of obtaining these results: • The effect of representation of women’s role in social affairs in Al-Sabah newspaper with modern rationality, but still the social rights of women are poorly represented in this newspaper. • The seriousness of the relations of power and sovereignty and eras in dealing with women and eras in the political arena. “Practice of politics in the issue of women’s political participation” and “Structural weakness in women’s empowerment and women’s participation in the political and governmental structure” are topics of the organizers of Al Sabah regarding the criticism of power and governance relations with women and eras.
