The study aimed to identify the extent of the Iraqi public’s interest in following up on crime news in the Iraqi media, and to indicate the media through which the public follows coverage of crime news, and to show the motives of the public’s interest in following up on crime news in general, and what are the most important types of crimes that the public is interested in following up, and to determine the extent of public approval of Principles of covering crime in general through the media, and identifying the similarities and differences between the Iraqi public in its attitudes towards the Iraqi media according to its different demographic characteristics. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the analytical descriptive approach was used to study the phenomenon as it exists in reality and to describe it accurately and express it qualitatively or quantitatively, depending on the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data from a sample of the Iraqi public consisting of 390 individuals. The study concluded that the public’s approval of the principles of crime coverage in general through the media is medium, and it found that the official government media ranks first in terms of the media arrangement through which the public follows coverage of crime news, then television came after it, followed by social networking sites, then websites The study also found that the reasons for the Iraqi public’s follow-up of crime news are to educate and direct the family and the family, take precaution, caution and lesson, and to reassure oneself and the family and fear for society and the country, in addition to the existence of national and belonging motives, and as a kind of suspense and passion for these matters, and it turns out that social crimes It receives the attention of the Iraqi public in the first place, followed by political crimes, then terrorist crimes, economic crimes and criminal crimes.
