Intellectualism is one of the categories that has been able to have a special place in the world in recent years. This intellectual feature also has a special place in the Arab world and after the Napoleonic invasion, as well as the opening of European-style schools and the increase in travel between Islamic and European countries, this intellectual class found a special place. Among the personalities of this class is Dr. Hassan Hanafi, who, considering his influence in the Arab world, as well as his concerns about the issue of ancient thought, modernity, Western studies, and contemporary reality, further examines his thoughts and connection with the European world and modern Christian theology. This research has been done by analyzing the discourse of Foucault, Laclau and Mufe and have been identified three discourses in Hanafi thought. The first discourse with which the debate begins is the discourse of tradition and modernity. Hanafi believes that if the Islamic world and the Arab world want to have a civilization against the existing civilization in the West and its center, It must use its resources and rebuild the civilization that existed years ago and rebuild it in accordance with contemporary needs. In this discourse, he points to some of the traditions needed to achieve civilization and create a discourse of modernity and explains some of them. This includes reviewing the science of the principles of religion and philosophy, as well as interpretation. The next issue is a special look at the issue of the West and Westernization. Hassan Hanafi has paid special attention to the rise and fall of the West and has turned to meticulous paleontology in historical writing, along with epistemological and ontological dimensions. And it has placed it as a discourse between the other two discourses, the old discourse and modernity and the discourse of contemporary reality. The main concern in this discourse is seeing oneself in the mirror of others. In the works that Hanafi has dealt with this subject, the historical and content study and the evolution of the West, as well as Western personality and ideology have been studied and analyzed. Hanafi has begun his work as a critic of the West and Westernization, However, in the process, he has borrowed inclinations and epistemologies from the West. The third discourse, which can be considered the result of years of Hanafi efforts in the critique of tradition and Western studies is the Discourse of contemporary reality. This discourse is taken from the contents of tradition and applied by new methods and practices that often come from the West to the East. What has highlighted this discourse is that in this discourse, in a special way, modernity in Islamic works and sources from the principles of religion and philosophy and the principles of jurisprudence, mysticism and Sufism are examined.
