The effects of high school students’ use of Facebook on the mental health of users (Students of the Holy Karbala Governorate as a model)

This study aims to shed light on the impact of social networking sites, Facebook, as a model on the mental health of secondary school students in the holy city of Karbala Governorate, where the study was launched to address the problem that exists among the student groups, which is the emergence of the phenomenon of addiction on Internet platforms, and this was reflected in students’ feelings of depression, suicide and weakness Concentration and mental abilities, in addition to the low level of achievement of the student, the descriptive approach was used to build the theoretical side of the study, as well as the analytical method was used to prove the research hypotheses and reach quantitative results according to the opinions of the study sample, where the researcher prepared a questionnaire including the dimensions of the research, depending on the five-point Likert scale. It was distributed to a random electronic sample of (396) of the sample population (22895), and the response rate was 100%, after emptying the questionnaire using the (spss) statistical program, where it used measures of central tendency, namely the arithmetic mean, standard deviation and relative importance. Chi square was also used to measure the relationship Between the two variables, a conclusion was reached that there is a correlation between the use of Facebook By the students on their mental health, but this relationship is few, as the researcher concluded that the cultural and religious environment greatly affected the culture and orientations of the student, which made him wise to use social media platforms, including Facebook. The researcher suggested that it is necessary to establish development and awareness programs that educate the student on the correct use of Facebook Facebook and reduce the effects of addiction in the use of Facebook.
