Rereading Lived experiences of Women from Medicalization of Body Management in Metropolis of Tehran

The present study was conducted with aim of rereading women’s lived experiences of medicalization of body management in the metropolis of Tehran. The phenomenological research method was Van-Menen method. The research community was made up of women and girls who had the experience of performing several surgeries and cosmetic procedures. With the purposeful sampling method dependent on the criteria, the research reached theoretical saturation at the level of 18 people. The data collection tool was deep and semi-structured interview, after implementing and coding the data, their validity was done by the methods of two coders, returning to the interviewees and in-depth description. The results showed that women gave meaning to the act of beauty under 3 general themes: they perform the act in the meaning of conforming to the norms, class promotion and improving relationships. During this research, two forms of beauty treatments, including treatment-oriented treatments and sexual-oriented treatments, in general, after examining, giving meaning to the procedure and its typology, the fields affecting it can be divided into three categories: individual, structural and made it interactive and communicative. The results of the research also showed that the images of the ideal body that are spread in the media have been integrated with the medical industry, so that the culture of medicalization with the scope of influence in the field of various beauty procedures with three strategies of facilitation-support, simplification and concealment causes the attraction of women to induce to perform various actions.
