The study aimed to know the “social factors affecting acceptance of rumors published on Facebook, a survey study on Karbala Universit students.” The wide and large technology in Iraq after 2003, especially social networking sites, and the study aims to answer the main question, what are the social factors affecting the acceptance of rumors published on Facebook among the students of Karbala University?

In the study, the descriptive approach was used for the procedures of the theoretical separation of the study, as well as the use of the analytical method to prove its hypotheses in order to reach the results according to the answers of the study sample, and it was distributed according to the electronically organized random sample of (401) students from the University of Karbala. In his study, the researcher relied on the theory of uses and gratifications, the theory of Raymond Boudon, and the theory of social expectations.

The researcher reached through the study that he conducted to the results, including: the existence of a significant difference between gender, age, education and use of users and social factors that play a role in accepting rumors, and he concluded that the factor of belief and religion has an impact on accepting rumors, as well as the economic and social status of the family is a factor It has an impact on accepting the rumor, and the most important findings of the study are the influence of the media and social networking sites in spreading and adopting the rumor, and the percentage of females is higher than the sample of the study than the percentage of males.

The researcher recommended the need to establish specialized centers to analyze what is published on the Facebook website, and Iraqi universities should teach a subject on social networking sites, and the Iraqi government should strengthen and strengthen the economic situation of the family and coordinate with the media to prepare special programs on what Facebook deals with.
