Rhetorical Explanation (Based on the Topics of Rhetoric) in the Description of the Sufficient Principles of Mullah Saleh Mazandarani (Book of Al-Hijjah)

This study searches for rhetorical guidance, which is concerned with revealing and clarifying the rhetorical meaning based on the presence of some semantic investigations indicating that meaning. Accordingly, I am trying to answer the question: How did the Mazandarani direct the new meaning of the text he was talking about based on the rhetorical investigations?

In this thesis, I have relied on the descriptive-analytical approach, which I aim through researching to identify the most important rhetorical directives that Mazandarani was directing to extract meaning and to stand on the meaning of the sayings of the infallible – may God’s peace be upon them – in the hadiths of Usul al-Kafi.

In the first chapter, I dealt with the explanation of the two great concepts and personalities and the method of the explainer in explaining their words – may God’s peace be upon them. Then in the second chapter, I dealt with the rhetorical guidance in the two topics of simile and metaphor, and to find out their applications in the book Al-Hijjah from the explanation of the origins of Al-Kafi. As for the third and fourth chapters, they dealt with rhetorical guidance in the two sections of metonymy and metaphor, and to find out their applications in the book of the argument from the explanation of the origins of al-Kafi.  Finally, I reached several results, the most important of which are the following:

1. It appears from the research the strength of the link between the rhetorical guidance and the narrative text in the texts of the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt – peace be upon them – because the sciences are only the emergence of their understanding.
2. Al-Mazandarani worked in his explanation of the rhetorical aspect, which led to the enrichment of the meaning and its breadth so that it gave strength in understanding the narrative text.
3. The Sheikh Al-Sharh highlighted the rhetorical aspects in his explanation, for the rhetorical investigations were many, some of them are brief, some show him one aspect and another may be, and some of them provide guidance from a chapter. And another directive is given that carries him beyond the door of the rest of the graphic arts, and so on.
4. I found that the Sheikh has some rhetorical opinions that he discussed and put forward.
