My treatise deals with the \”evolution of the methods of electing governors from the beginning of the caliphate to the end of the Umayyad period.\”
In the new era, valuable historical studies related to the managerial, political, intellectual and cultural aspects of the origin of Islamic government, especially during the time of the Prophet (PBUH), caliphs and Umayyad rule, have increased due to the influence of these governments in spreading Islamic thought and Arabic culture in cities and it is the lands that the Muslims have reached, and it covers the area from around China to mid-Africa and elsewhere. And the rulers of the regions (governors) may be the main link in drawing the true picture of this influence; Those who represented the leaders of the Islamic Ummah in thought, politics and other matters.
But in the case of the present study, it should be said that it focuses on the methods of selecting governors and what were the criteria of the caliph for selecting the governor of a region ?!There are many studies that examine the affairs of governors from a managerial point of view and they have been used in this dissertation, but the subject of our research is more extensive and accurate and we have not deviated from the subject of evolution or the main criterion for selecting a governor.
The importance of the present research is that the writings on this topic are few and incomplete and do not reach the volume of an academic dissertation and are referred to as few articles and researches. The research method used in this dissertation is a historical method that follows evolution from authoritative and descriptive sources. Regarding the results of the research, it should be said that we came to the conclusion that the evolution of the election of the governor was sometimes based on the merit and good behavior of the governor and sometimes based on tribalism and family relations.
