ISIS media: operational methods and propaganda principles (Analytical study of the infographic page in Al-Naba newspaper issued by the Central Information Office of ISIS)

ISIS has been interested in media and propaganda as two weapons that complement one another in promoting the organization’s ideology that is trying to convince the world of its alleged state and its continuous efforts to gain support and recruit fighters. The research problem is summarized by the main question: What are the implications of ISIS’s media policy on the organization’s operational methods and propaganda principles? The study assumed three hypotheses she:

  1. 1. The Media Council is the one who draws the organization’s media policy, as it is the supervisor of ISIS’s media.
  2. 2. The religious establishment does not interfere in the design of the ISIS media policy, but rather monitors it and monitors the extent of its commitment to Sharia controls.
  3. 3. The organization’s information machine operates in a single-level central mechanism.

The importance of this study is summarized in the following points:

  1. 1. Knowing the relationship between ISIS and the media and analyzing the media doctrine of ISIS.
  2. 2. Knowing the extent of the media’s contribution to the issue of attracting fighters, especially foreigners.
  3. 3. Knowing the role of the media in making victories in the battles waged by the organization.

In this study the researcher relied on two tools to access the required information and data, which is the data analysis tool, where the researcher analyzed the content of 30 infographic pages in Al-Naba ‘newspaper, which represents an intentional sample of 20% of the total sample of 148 pages, and the researcher also used the scientific interview tool To obtain recent and unpublished information that is closely related to the subject of the study, and through research and access to the available sources, research and studies, the researcher has reached the following results:

  1. 1. ISIS’s media work according to a flexible propaganda strategy based on two important ideas:
  2. A) Promote the idea of ​​establishing an Islamic state and emphasize it with the slogan “It will endure and expand.”
  3. B) Attracting and attracting the largest number of fighters and supporters in the world.
  4. 2. The media work of ISIS is based on (no activity without message, no message without activity).
  5. 3. The organization’s propaganda strategy has multiple levels and may change its tactics depending on the type and circumstances of the battle and the importance of the target.
  6. 4. The propaganda strategy of ISIS is in line with technological developments and is accelerating to employ them to achieve the organization’s goals.
  7. The organization used all available media, visual, audio and written to deliver its media messages.
