Social networking sites have greatly affected the youth of Basra, as they received a large amount of information and messages directed through the communication platforms, as it turned out that the impacts are negative effects that lead young people to several negative things, so it became necessary for us to feel the danger of social networking sites and try to explain and treat the alienation The Basri youth expressed their valuable principles and their good habits. The researcher relied on two theories: the theory of cultural implantation and the theory of dependence on the media. The problem of this research is the impact of social networking sites represented by Facebook in developing political awareness among the youth of Basra, and the researcher embodied the problem of his research with a set of questions, the main question came as follows: To what extent does the social networking site (Facebook) affect the development of Political awareness among the youth of Basra? The researcher seeks to achieve the goals, including, identifying the effects of the social networking site Facebook in developing political awareness among Basra youth, revealing the limits of Basra youth’s interest in the political contents published on Facebook, and knowing the political effects that Facebook has on Basra youth culture. This research is classified within the descriptive survey research, and the survey method was adopted, and the researcher used two tools in collecting his information and data: the field observation and the standard questionnaire form and the scale. It included (20) paragraphs, distributed equally between positive and negative paragraphs.
The research community was represented in the segment of young people residing in the city of Basra, and the researcher chose a random sample of (204) individuals, who were selected by a simple random sample. The research reached a set of results, most notably, it was found that the impact of the social networking site Facebook in the development of political awareness among Young people It became clear that the percentage of disagreement is very low in the questionnaire form, the opinions of young people varied about the positive and negative effects of Facebook on them, that the political positions taken by young people towards the ongoing political process were closer to inciting rebellion against this process than to positions of support and support .
