An Interpretation of Five Quranic Themes
The unwavering faith of Muslim Quranic exegetes in the noble Quran, coupled with their profound love for it, has prompted them to propose numerous meanings and explanations for Quranic words and verses. As a result, over time, more than forty interpretations have been put forth for the disjoined letters (al-huruf al-muqattaʿa) found in the Quran, while over twenty interpretations have been suggested for the words on which the Quran swears, such as “shafʿ,” “watr,” “ʿasr,” “tin,” and “zaytun.”
Certain Quranic exegetes have made attempts to reconcile the Quran’s mention of the “seven skies” with the concepts found in Ptolemaic or Copernican astronomy, drawing connections to the spherical nature or movement of the Earth. Additionally, they have contemplated the Quranic references to the distortion of the Torah and the Gospel. In this book, well-reasoned interpretations of these five Quranic matters are presented
