In Islamic law, Marriage is considered to be a sacred institution which is strongly recommended in both Quran and Tradition, as in “verse 3 – Nesa” and “verse 32 – Nour” God commands us on marriage. In Islam, men are not allowed to marry any woman such as one’s mother, sister, daughter, aunt and etc. which are related to one by blood and are considered as relationship sanctity, or one’s mother in law, sister in law and etc. which are related to one by convention and are considered as alliance sanctity and marrying them is forbidden. As it is said in the famous Hadith by the holy prophet : “As all who are forbidden because of being related by blood, forbidden shall be who breast feeds you.” In Islamic law, respecting the sanctity laws are mandatory. In choosing a wife, aside from the general conditions mentioned, there also specific laws involved which are considered to be aspects of sanctity in a marriage. They are the following: 1) relationship 2) alliance 3)Incest 4)Adultery 5)Demand number 6) lian 7) Divorce 8)Religious Difference (Blasphemy) 9) suckling 10) state of ritual consecration 11) inversion 12)Having a Husband. Knowing the above mentioned is necessary for keepsaking the sacredness of the family as an institution, and considering the rarity of well categorized sources about the mentioned topics, this thesis can be a guide which can broaden the horizons about the matter discussed. In this thesis, along with a discussion of Marriage and it’s importance, The forbidden aspects of marriage and the sanctity of marriage will be discussed from the shiite and shafeiyyeh theologians’ viewpoint.
