Lucifer is an important subject in Islamic mysticism. Understanding Lucifer’s whatness, learning philosophy of his coming to existence and his status, and understanding his role in shaping man’s destiny have been among the most significant matters occupying great Sufis and mystics’ minds. Mystics, however, were two groups in their attitude towards the subject: the majority who remonstrated with Lucifer based the Quranic teachings and traditions; and others who praised and defend him by attributing to him such characters as “monotheist”, “chivalrous”, “lover of God”, “black light”, “khwaja of the khwajas (lord of the lords)” etc. The treatise tries to introduce all the mystics praising Lucifer. On the mystics remonstrating with him, however, only some have been mentioned since great number them. The final chapter of the treatise is allotted to analyzing these two opposing views about Lucifer and coming to a conclusion as it couldn’t remain neglected.
