The history of thought in Shi’ism can be completed by reviving the theological works of the great shi’ite men. Accordingly, this thesis is based on theological treatises written by Vahid Behbahani, one of the great shi’ite men. Among his theological works, six
treatises are available as follows: Usūl dīn (Principles of Religion), Imamat Usūl alIslam and al-īmān (Principles of Islam and faith), ‘Nafi Rw’yat fi Alākherat (Impossibility of Vision), Al-jabr and al-Ikhtīār, Tasmīa al-‘awlad al-a’imah b’ism alkhulafā. In Usūl dīn, although Vahid Behbahani adopts intelectual reason in the issues related to theology, he emphasizes on proving the principles of religion through prophethood. In the treatise of Imamat written in the continuity of Usūl-dīn, he attempts to prove legitimacy of Shi’ism and Imam Ali’s Imamat. Usūl al-Islam and al-īmān has to a greater extent juriprudential approach, but it is important due to dealing with separation in the principles of Islam and faith‘Nafi Rw’yat fi Alākherat is dealt with the world of Ash’arite scholar who believe in the vision of God in heart. Al-jabr and alIkhtīār answers a qouestion raised by Ibn Hājib in “Brief Description” on rejecting goodness and badness of intellect. And Tasmīa al-‘awlad al-a’imah b’ism al-khulafā is in response to a doubt that why shi’a Imams give their children the names of caliphs.
