The Golden rule in ethics states that “one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself” or “One should love others as he would love himself”. But an important question here arises: who are “the others”? Do they include just the followers of the religion; or everyone? The answer to this important and also challenging question leads to the following question: do moral teachings of the Qur’an and Bible only apply to Muslims and Christians? Many battles and immoral conducts inside a religion and between two different religions have roots in the above-mentioned basic question and most of them have happened in the name of religion when believers have committed the wrong for the sake of God. This thesis studies this issue from Qur’anic and Biblical points of view. There are different verses in the Qur’an and the Bible concerning this issue. Some verses recommend that we should treat others by good moral conducts without specifying “the others” in the above question; some verses generally recommend that we must have moral conduct towards all people; another group of verses recommends that we must just love the followers of our religon; however, there are some other verses which recommend that we must fight those who are not inside our religion. In this thesis, we refer to the most important interpretations and finally aim to reach the real opinion of the Islam and Christianity.201
