Like all Islamic denominations, Shia has some particular teachings. Some of these are considered as Shia doctrinal beliefs. Some Sunni scholars regard such teachings as innovative and a proof of the fabrication in Shia faith. Explaining and defending these teachings is a necessity and obligation upon Imamiyya (Shia) scholars. One way to explain and defend these particular beliefs is to cite the evidences from the sources that are accepted by the opposite side. Sayings of the commander of faithfuls (peace be upon him) as a just companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) according to Sunni perspective, and as the first infallible Imam according to the Shia point of view, is an especially authentic base for such explanations. As one of the oldest sources, the noble book of Nahj al-Balagha contains the sayings of Imam Ali (pbuh) that exhibit profound theological teachings which can be used to explain and defend Shia beliefs. So far, there have been single works about some of Shia particular beliefs, appealing to the teachings of Nahj al-Balagha; however, some of the beliefs have been missed. Moreover, there hasn’t been a comprehensive work about all of Shia particular beliefs. The present study, after listing the particular beliefs of Shia and the scholars’ views about them, has compiled their evidences from Nahj al-Balagha. It starts from the beliefs concerning general Imama (leadership) like the belief in divine appointment, then the knowledge and infallibility of the Imam. It continues with other beliefs like Mahdawiyya and Rij’a (scatology) Bada (revelation of a newer divine plan) Taqiyya (living under the conditions of prosecution) and Tina (the innate nature).
