Homonymy has always been a common concern for the scholars of every branch of Islamic sciences especially that of Rijal and history resulting in many mistakes by them in this regard. As the development and reliability of every branch of science is subject to an accurate form of transferring knowledge to the audience, historiographers also are required to pay maximum attention in order not to commit any error through their studies and writings. Some of the common mistakes in this regard are those caused by homonymy, mistaking similar names for one another, such as the names of people or places and locations. This thesis aims to do a survey on such mistakes by Muslim historiographers and represent their causes as well as some practical solutions in order to avoid them.
