After years of effort, the Umayyad regime succeeded in establishing a state, facing important opponents from the beginning. The current of Shiite-led Ahl al-Bayt (AS) due to the presence of Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein (AS) on top of them and affinity with the Prophet Mohammad and the history of caliphate on Muslims were more important for the Umayyad family. After about 5 years of direct clashes against this current, Umayyads came to power and feared more than others from the current of Shiite-led Ahl al-Bayt and public attention to this movement was one of the most important problems of their state. Therefore to curb the flow of Shi’ism, they planned to find a solution. The thesis attempts to study Shiites and related currents as well as analysis of the Umayyad’s strategies to curb these trends using library resources and descriptive-analytic method. This thesis proves that the Umayyad’s policy in dealing with Shia was not only a cross-sectional and surface dealing but it was a deep, continues and scheduled one that took over the whole realm of their state and it is evaluated in intellectual, political, social and military forms.
