Love in Islamic mysticism is one of the fundamental issues that is considered to be the most important element of practical mysticism. Given the fact that the rationale and purpose of the creation of the world and man is not but love and affection of the Lord of His essence and consequently the depiction of His attributes and traits which represent essential love in the contingent world and the fact that love emanates entirely from the love of the Beloved who is both the lover and beloved, therefore, in the school of the mystics, love of God is the ultimate destination of the mystical journey, and the perfection of the theoretical faculties rests in understanding the realities of the universe, and that that knowledge and likeness to Allah are ways to achieving divine love and affection. Likeness means that the servant assimilates God the Almighty and does what he can do to manifest divine attributes. This love is the result of likeness and similarity between the lover and the beloved.
