Compilation of Shiite theology in Imamiyyah is indebted to the efforts of the great characters because of their efforts over the past centuries. Among these great figures, Sayyid Murteza has special status in Shi’ite theology. He is among the figures of Shi’ite school of thought like Shaykh Mofid and Shaykh Tusi and we can count him as one of the two basic pillars of theological school of Baghdad along with his master, Shaykh Mofid. These two great characters are of those who based Shi’ite theological thought at that time and defended rational and intellectual identity of Shiite beliefs. He has done tremendous services to the formulation and explanation of the Shi’ite theological doctrines by composing works considered the most important theological texts in Shi’a. According to Murtaza, the first of religious duty is the obligation to reason to knowledge of God. The other duties are dependent to this first duty. Al-Murtaza is along with the Mu’tazilite starting-point that man’s first duty is to use his reason to arrive at knowledge of God. Also in theological proof of the existence of God, he defends from the atomist’ stance in versus of Aristotelian notion of substantial change. He was a multi-dimensional personality. All Shi’ite scholars acknowledge that Sayyid Murtaza was the greatest scholar of his era, and groomed many outstanding ulama, including the famous Shaykh al-Tusi, the founder of the celebrated theological Center of Najaf. He served as “Naqib al-Nuqaba’” after the death of his brother. Sayyid Murtadha was deeply interested in fiqh, unlike Sayyid Radhi, who was more inclined towards politics and literature. He was considered a master of kalam, fiqh, usul al-fiqh, literature, grammar, poetry and other fields of knowledge. The Book “al-Dhakhirah” or more precisely “al-Dhakhirah al-Alam and al-Busayrah al-mtallam” is one of works that its status is not known around us. Al-Murtaza discussed the most important theological topics in this book and explains them in the light of rationalist tendency.
