In a letter to Dr. Hossein Simaei Sarraf, Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology, he commended the Minister’s efforts to facilitate their admission to Iranian universities, emphasizing the importance of respecting religious beliefs and ensuring women’s access to higher education.

The full text of the letter reads as follows:

Dr. Hossein Simaei Sarraf

Minister of Science, Research and Technology

Salamun Alaykum

I respectfully express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your efforts to facilitate the admission and education of hijab-wearing female students from Azerbaijan at universities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Undoubtedly, opening the doors of our country’s universities to these students is a valuable step toward expanding academic and cultural exchanges, strengthening human and scholarly ties among nations, and providing access to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s academic and educational resources. In addition to upholding the importance of knowledge and learning, this approach reflects respect for human dignity, religious beliefs, and women’s right to opportunities for academic growth and advancement.

The University of Religions and Denominations, for its part, is proud to welcome hijab-wearing female students from Azerbaijan and regards their presence as a valuable opportunity to deepen academic and cultural ties between our two nations. Drawing on its academic and international mission in the fields of religions, denominations, and interfaith and intra-faith dialogue, the University can provide a suitable environment for these students to become acquainted with Islamic teachings, the scholarly and civilizational heritage of the Muslim world, and opportunities for academic and cultural dialogue.

Admitting these students to the University of Religions and Denominations is, in particular, a step toward fulfilling the University’s mission of expanding cross-border academic exchanges, fostering intercultural understanding, and developing university cooperation with neighboring countries. We hope that, beyond its educational benefits, their academic presence will strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan and foster lasting academic and cultural cooperation.

We hope that the continuation of this approach, together with stronger cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the country’s universities, will enable more interested students from neighboring countries and the wider region to pursue their studies at Iranian higher education institutions. We also hope that the University of Religions and Denominations will be able to make an increasingly meaningful contribution to this endeavor.

Once again, I extend my appreciation for your attention and commitment to this worthy cause, and I pray to Almighty God for your continued success in serving scholarship and culture and advancing international academic cooperation.

Mostafa JafarTayari

President, University of Religions and Denominations

In light of the educational restrictions imposed by the government of Azerbaijan on women who wear the hijab, Dr. Mostafa Jafari-Tayari, President of the University of Religions and Denominations, has announced the University’s readiness to admit affected students.
