URD,realization of the goal of Qom Seminary
On Thursday, October 18, 2018 the opening ceremony of the 2018-2019 academic year at the University of Religions and Denominations (URD) was held in the presence of scholars, university professors and students, and with the speeches of Ayatullah Dr. Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, an associate member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran and a seminary and university professor .
The establishment of the University of Religions and Denominations is the realization of the goal of the founder of Qom Seminary
On Thursday, October 18, 2018 the opening ceremony of the 2018-2019 academic year at the University of Religions and Denominations was held in the presence of scholars, university professors and students, and with the speeches of Ayatullah Dr. Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, an associate member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran and a seminary and university professor.
At this ceremony, Ayatollah Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad considered the establishment of the University of Religions and denominations as the realization of the goal of the founder of Qom seminary. He added, ” (it would not be exaggerating to say that) theology, in addition to being the most important human knowledge, is also the most complicated one. Since 500 BC, we (have seen) both sciences and metaphysics, namely theology.
Up to now, the knowledge of the (physical sciences) has (progressed) so quickly that it has got out of man’s control. However, the questions posed by Socrates in theology have still remained unanswered without any progress; this is due to the complexity of the issues”.
Regarding the position of the University he said, “As the grandson of the founder of Qom Seminary, I heard myself that he wished other religions to be taught in the Seminary; and thus, the establishment of this university is the realization of the goal of the founder of Qom Seminary”.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Hujjat al-Islam wa al-Muslimin Seyyed Abolhassan Nawwab, the chancellor of the University of Religions and dominations welcomed the guests and (delivered a short speech): “Our least important actions have dramatic cultural effects. The problem of ISIS (The ISIS issue), Wahhabism, and extremist groups have no political or military solution, but only a cultural one. There should be dialogue, and we should never get tired of that. There need to be so many discussions (that finally) people are convinced (and) accept each other’s words and save humanity from (the past) century, which was the century of religious and sectarian wars.”
